Education for Strengthening Reading Competency through Humanities and Book Review Writing for Village Reading Club Members: Seven Sessions Every Tuesday Starting July 5

Gwanak-gu, Village Reading Club Reading Competency Enhancement Training

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is conducting the 'Village Reading Club Reading Competency Enhancement Education' to improve the independence of reading clubs, spread the value of reading in the local community, and create an atmosphere of reading books.

The district will operate a reading competency enhancement program every Tuesday from July 5 to August 23 for members of 124 village reading clubs currently active.

The education consists of a total of 7 lectures, with the theme of 'Humanities and Writing Book Reviews,' which was the most preferred topic according to a survey of reading club members, and is composed of online (Zoom) and face-to-face classes.

The humanities lectures include 3 sessions where participants read classical literature on themes such as contradiction, death, and mystery, followed by discussion and reflection time. The book review writing lectures consist of 4 sessions covering the basics of writing book reviews and writing nonfiction book reviews.

The lectures will be conducted by Cho Hyunhaeng, an author and literary columnist, who will communicate with the students through sessions such as 'Reading Together, Discussing, and Writing in Reading Clubs' and 'The Ultimate Reading: How to Write Good Book Reviews.'

Anyone who is a member of a village reading club can participate in the online (Zoom) education, while the face-to-face humanities and book review writing lectures will be limited to 50 and 30 participants respectively, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are open from 10 a.m. on the 28th until the 30th and can be submitted via Google Forms. For more details about the 'Village Reading Club Reading Competency Enhancement Education,' please contact the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Department.

The district is promoting various support projects to revitalize village reading clubs, including ▲ operating a reading club registration system ▲ training reading club leaders ▲ consulting for reading clubs ▲ holding joint reading meetings and reading club festivals to build a reading club network.

Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “I hope this will be a meaningful time to understand human life and values, self-expression abilities, and to read books, evaluate their value, and learn from them.” He added, “We will continue to provide steady support to ensure residents have opportunities for reading activities to spread the reading culture.”
