A Writer Who Repeatedly Refused Interviews: An Exclusive on 'My Liberation Notes' Park Hae-young Interview②

A Writer Who Repeatedly Refused Interviews: An Exclusive on 'My Liberation Notes' Park Hae-young Interview② Photo by Segyesa Publishing House

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The creator's involvement in interpreting a work is naturally limited. Whether it is a 'close reading' or a 'misreading,' it is entirely the reader's responsibility, and it is considered inappropriate for the creator to intervene and comment. This is also why writer Park Haeyoung declined several interview requests.

When the drama scriptbook My Mister (Segyesa) was released, she declined once. The response was, "It doesn't seem appropriate to do an interview about a previous work ahead of the airing of My Liberation Notes." When My Liberation Notes received a positive response, we requested an interview related to that drama again.

Again, the answer was the same. The reason given was, "It is cautious for the writer to express opinions about a drama currently airing." However, feeling awkward about repeatedly declining interviews, we proposed a written interview focusing on the My Mister scriptbook after the drama ended. This was a sign of a positive response.

She said, "'My Mister' is a work from four years ago, so I judged that even if I said this or that, it would not harm the emotions of the viewers."

This shows how thoughtful writer Park was in dealing with her works and people. I also considered that repeatedly asking Park, who wants to communicate with readers through her works, to speak out might be rude. But I wanted to ask and listen to satisfy the curiosity of many who regard her works as life dramas. About how writer Park Haeyoung nurtured such stories and dialogues...

Thus, the interview with writer Park was arranged, and we were able to capture her perspective on My Mister and My Liberation Notes. However, at the writer's request to meet the audience as 'Park Haeyoung's works' rather than 'Park Haeyoung' herself, her profile photo was not included.
