Development of Affordable Dishes Using Local Agricultural Products
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County in Jeonnam has been conducting customized on-site consulting for fostering Muan restaurants targeting local dining establishments for three years since 2020, aiming to help the regional economy by revitalizing sustainable food tourism using agricultural specialties.
The county completed menu training through consulting to welcome tourists visiting Muan in line with the Muan Lotus Festival, which is being held face-to-face for the first time in two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The targeted dining establishments are accelerating food development to establish the newly transferred menus as finalized dishes by observing consumer responses through early sales of the new menus.
This year, the consulting is being conducted at six locations: Namsan Garden and Naegohyang Beolnakji in Muan-eup, and Sigoljip, Namakgol Sanyakcho, Songak Mobil, and Fresh To Go in Samhyang-eup. Additionally, follow-up menu training was provided to Seungdal Garden and Muan Gaetbeol Nakji Branch No. 2, which had previously received consulting.
In particular, this consulting focused on developing foods that are easy to approach and affordable using mainly local agricultural products, preferred by everyone. Currently, dishes such as Snail Gangdoenjang at Sigoljip, Chicken Nutritional Hot Pot at Namakgol Sanyakcho, Bulgogi Salad at Fresh To Go, and Saltwater Eel Jjageuli at Namsan Garden are receiving great responses from customers visiting the restaurants.
On-site coaching will be completed by August, and an evaluation meeting will be held to gather the targeted establishments in one place to assess the menus transferred so far.
County Governor Kim San said, “This year, especially with the Muan Lotus Festival, which was held non-face-to-face for the past two years due to COVID-19, being held face-to-face, we plan to continuously focus on fostering restaurants so that attracting internal and external customers can lead to the promotion of consumption of local agricultural specialties and the revitalization of food tourism.”
