Gwangju Police Agency Holds Joint Discussion on Enhancing Evidence Collection Measures in Case of Terrorism

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 22nd that it held a joint discussion attended by Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall, the 31st Infantry Division of the Army, the 1st Fighter Wing of the Air Force, the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, and five city and provincial police agencies to establish a standard operational procedure for evidence collection in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terror incident.

At this meeting, recognizing the lack of standardized procedures for evidence (sample) collection in the event of a CBRN terror incident, the agencies with actual CBRN experience shared their opinions and reviewed the establishment process to develop a unified standard operational procedure for evidence (sample) collection that can be commonly applied by all domestic CBRN-related response agencies, aiming to improve the reliability of evidence collection and the accuracy of detailed analysis.

The main agenda items discussed included ▲unification of sample collection procedures among CBRN response agencies ▲standardization of sample transfer to analysis agencies for cross-analysis and determination of sample collection quantities ▲measures to minimize secondary contamination ▲establishment of concepts for contaminated, control, and uncontaminated samples ▲and preparation of various sample collection procedures to enhance analysis accuracy.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency stated that it will supplement the established sample collection procedure plan through actual training during the national CBRN counterterrorism specialized training held in Gwangju under the supervision of the National Police Agency, and will promote its use by CBRN-related response agencies nationwide.
