Efforts to Modernly Inherit Damyang's Value Represented by Lyric Literature and Pavilion Literature
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The unveiling ceremony of the monument honoring County Governor Choi Hyung-sik, who led Damyang county administration for 16 years from the 3rd to the 7th elected terms, was held on the 20th at Damyang Hyanggyo.
About 50 people, including Choi Hyung-sik, Damyang County Governor, Park Moon-su, former head of Changpyeong Hyanggyo, and Park Jong-won, Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly member, attended the ceremony hosted by Damyang Hyanggyo to celebrate.
The unveiling ceremony proceeded with a progress report on the monument by Lee Hee-jung, Secretary General of Damyang Hyanggyo, and a commemorative speech by Kim Woong-jo, former head of Damyang Hyanggyo.
During his tenure, Governor Choi made multifaceted efforts to modernize the cultural heritage of Damyang, known for its classical literature and pavilion literature, by designating Damyang as a humanities education special zone, restoring Myeongnyundang, constructing an education center, and establishing various humanities education programs and infrastructure such as the Chuseonghakdang humanities lectures.
He was also highly praised for steadily implementing sustainable ecological city policies and integrating the unique 'Damyang essence,' which harmonizes ecology and humanities represented by the creation of Juknokwon Bamboo Forest, into all areas of county administration, developing Damyang into a prominent cultural tourism city.
Governor Choi Hyung-sik said, “I feel an immense sense of responsibility to be recorded alongside the teachings and footsteps of our ancestors,” and added, “I will continue to strive to ensure that Damyang firmly carries on the wisdom and traditions of our forebears.”
