The Special Committee on the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province under the Transition Committee for the 8th Gyeonggi Province Governor will hold a 'Policy Forum for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province' on the afternoon of the 24th at the Peace Nuri Hall of the Northern Government Complex in Gyeonggi Province, jointly with Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Min-chul (Uijeongbu Eul), People Power Party lawmakers Kim Seong-won (Dongducheon·Yeoncheon), and the Korean Local Autonomy Association, the committee announced on the 22nd.
The establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province is a core pledge of Governor-elect Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province.
The forum will be held as a 'cooperative venue' where ruling and opposition lawmakers who submitted related bills will participate as co-hosts to put their heads together for the successful promotion of the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province.
In particular, about 300 people including Governor-elect Kim, elected city and provincial council members, and residents will attend the forum to engage in diverse discussions on the necessity and vision of establishing the special autonomous province, legal challenges and strategies, and establishment plans.
In Session 1 of the forum, chaired by So Soon-chang, president of the Korean Local Autonomy Association, Professor Jang In-bong of the Department of Public Administration at Shinhan University will present on the topic of 'Necessity and Vision of Establishment.' Discussants will include Lee Jae-ho, senior research fellow at the Korea Institute of Public Administration, Oh Tae-seok, director of the Gyeonggi Province Autonomous Administration Bureau, Kim Eul-sik, research fellow at the Gyeonggi Research Institute, Ko Tae-hyun, managing editor of Gyeonggi Newspaper, and Seo Nam-gwon, secretary of the special committee of the transition committee.
In Session 2, chaired by Son Kyung-sik, vice chairman of the special committee of the transition committee, Professor Kim Jae-kwang of the Department of Law and Police Science at Sunmoon University will present on the topic of 'Legal Challenges and Strategies.' Discussants will include Kim Seong-ho, deputy director of the Local Autonomy Law Research Institute, Heo Seung-won, head of the Local Autonomy Support Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Yeon Je-chan, director of the Balanced Development Planning Office of Gyeonggi Province, Lee Jong-gu, reporter at Hankook Ilbo, and Lee Im-seong, president of the Korean Bar Association.
An official from the transition committee expressed expectations, saying, "It will be a venue to build consensus on the necessity of establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province and to seek practical implementation measures."
