Summer Trip Begins at Gurye Sumokwon Filled with Hydrangea Fragrance

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] At Gurye Arboretum, Jeollanam-do’s first public arboretum opened in May last year, the lush hydrangea flowers signaling the start of summer have begun to bloom.

In early summer, when the fresh greenery of June deepens, hydrangeas show off their greatest beauty in a variety of colors?from purple to deep pink, cool blue, pinkish light pink, and jade-white?boasting vibrant, self-illuminating hues in season, offering visitors to Gurye Arboretum a rich charm.

At Gurye Arboretum, over 40 varieties and about 30,000 colorful and beautiful hydrangea plants, steadily collected over time, create waves of color, providing a feast of hydrangeas where visitors can enjoy nature and healing in the forest.

Especially, among the 13 themed exhibition gardens at Gurye Arboretum, the Foreign Tree Garden and Climate Change Theme Garden are filled with eye-pleasing hydrangeas, captivating many visitors around this time of year.

The 1 km-long themed hydrangea path, created last year, features delicate blue mountain hydrangeas that shimmer like a silk road, evoking a sense of mystery and making it a top walking course.

Various photo zones are set up throughout Gurye Arboretum, perfect for capturing memorable summer travel photos. Additionally, a newly created distinctive area this year includes a ‘Storytelling Specialized Trail’ themed around plants and flowers, stretching from ▶Shade Garden ▶Zelkova Tree Garden ▶Chestnut Tree Rest Area to ▶Observation Deck, which has gained popularity.

The ‘Stamp Tour,’ where visitors find owl stamps placed in major themed exhibition gardens to leave a record of their visit, adds a unique fun element to touring the arboretum.

Kim Sunho, Gurye County Governor, said, “I hope tourists visiting Gurye Arboretum enjoy various experiences and fully savor healing time in the beautiful hydrangea-filled forest, surrounded by nature filled with stories.”

Hydrangeas are expected to be in full bloom starting this weekend, offering a chance to refresh and become healthier by enjoying the phytoncide scent emitted by the dense fresh greenery at Gurye Arboretum, and to fully immerse in the charm of the brightly blooming clustered ‘hydrangeas.’

In July this year, a plant sales area and caf? will open in front of the ticket office, expected to provide more diverse services to visitors.

To welcome summer, Gurye Arboretum will operate various experience programs such as loach catching, hydrangea soap making, hanji fan crafting, handkerchief dyeing, and hedgehog making, providing families with a meaningful opportunity to create good memories together.
