Korea Island Promotion Agency Holds the 5th On-site Island Forum Tour

Visit to Geumo-do, Yeosu... Listening to Opinions of Residents and Activists

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Korea Island Promotion Agency held the "5th On-site Island Forum" on Geumo-do Island in Yeosu, listening to the opinions of island residents, field activists, and related public officials.

The Korea Island Promotion Agency has recently been selecting and announcing the "Island of the Month" to raise domestic island awareness, and the on-site forum is the first linked project.

It plans not only to select the "Island of the Month" but also to contribute to improving the living conditions of island residents and promoting island development by linking various projects such as the "Visiting Island On-site Forum."

The "Visiting Island On-site Forum," held for the fourth time this year, was prepared to reflect voices from the field and to discover practical island policies and promotion projects.

In particular, many researchers participated in this forum. Researchers from each team of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, including the Promotion Project Team, Policy Research Team, and Information Statistics Team, took part in the forum to discover policies and promotion projects.

On that day, residents expressed various opinions through the forum, including proposals to expand the national park release area, operate night passenger ships, urge the construction of the Yeondo Bridge (Wolho-Geumo-do-Yeondo), and improve the waste problem caused by additional island tourists.

Earlier, on the 10th, the Korea Island Promotion Agency announced that it would select and announce the "Island of the Month" every month. As a result, Geumo-do, known as the "Island Loved by Empress Myeongseong," was selected as the "Island of the Month" for June.

The Korea Island Promotion Agency's "Island of the Month" features interesting information about the island's history, culture, and traditions under the theme "Useful Island of the Month (Alssulseom)."

Odongho, Director of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, said, "Although Geumo-do has a relatively short pioneering history of 120 years, it possesses excellent resources such as Bireong-gil, making it a highly promising island for the future. We will actively reflect the valuable opinions of island residents from this on-site forum in research and projects to strive for policy development."

Meanwhile, the Korea Island Promotion Agency held the "4th Visiting Island On-site Forum" over two days from April 7 to 8 in Sandaldo, Oedo, and Jisimdo areas of Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province.
