[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A public discussion forum has been arranged for the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province ahead of the launch of the 8th local government.

The Special Committee on the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province under the 8th Gyeonggi Province Governor Transition Committee announced on the 22nd that it will jointly hold the "'Policy Discussion on the Establishment of Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province'" with National Assembly members Kim Seong-won and Kim Min-cheol, and the Korean Local Autonomy Association at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office (Pyeonghwa Nuri Hall) on the 24th.

The discussion will be co-hosted by Kim Seong-won, chairman of the People Power Party Gyeonggi Provincial Party and National Assembly member for Dongducheon·Yeoncheon, and Kim Min-cheol, National Assembly member for Uijeongbu Eul from the Democratic Party of Korea.

In particular, it draws attention as a "cooperative governance forum" where ruling and opposition parties come together to successfully promote the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, and as a pledge to be fulfilled within the term of Governor-elect Kim Dong-yeon.

The forum is expected to feature diverse discussions on the necessity and vision of establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, legal challenges and strategies, and concrete establishment plans.

Session 1 of the forum, divided into 75-minute segments, will be moderated by So Sun-chang, president of the Korean Local Autonomy Association, and will include a keynote presentation titled "The Necessity and Vision for Establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province" by Professor Jang In-bong of the Department of Public Administration at Shinhan University, followed by designated and open discussions.

Session 2 will be chaired by Son Kyung-sik, vice chairman of the Transition Committee’s Special Committee on the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, and will feature a presentation titled "Legal Challenges and Strategies for the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province" by Professor Kim Jae-kwang of the Department of Law and Police Science at Sunmoon University.

A representative of the Transition Committee’s Special Committee on the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province stated, "We are confident this will be a meaningful forum where ruling and opposition parties come together to build consensus on the necessity of establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, a core pledge of Governor-elect Kim Dong-yeon, and to seek practical implementation measures."

About 300 people, including Governor-elect Kim Dong-yeon, elected city and provincial council members, and residents of the northern region, are expected to attend the forum.
