[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Brunch concerts, held for about an hour around lunchtime on weekdays, are showing high growth rates and establishing themselves as a new trend in the performance industry. Shim Seonghun, Deputy Manager of Interpark's Performance Venue Business Team, analyzed, "Even during the pandemic, it seems that the concerts maintained their popularity by offering an affordable price in the 10,000 KRW range during daytime hours that were not crowded."
According to ticket reservation platform Interpark, brunch concert ticket sales increased by 144.7% in 2021 compared to the previous year. As of the 20th of this year, sales have reached 78.3% of last year's total.
The main audience consists of women aged 40 and above. This year's booking distribution was 40s women (36.6%), followed by women aged 50 and above (24.8%). By gender, women accounted for 86% and men 14%. In 2021, women in their 40s were also the largest group at 30.8%, followed by women in their 30s (23.2%) and women aged 50 and above (18.4%).
The cost is in the 10,000 KRW range. The average ticket price per brunch concert ticket was 13,035 KRW in 2021 and 14,161 KRW in 2022. Compared to VIP seats for large-scale musicals, this is only about one-tenth of the cost, making it less burdensome.
The themes and artists vary by venue. Social Venue Raum offers matinee concerts enjoyed with a meal. The brunch concert "11:11" at Kkumbit Theater in Gireum-dong introduces the lives of painters through the docent Jung Woo-cheol, accompanied by sensory jazz, guitar, and classical music.
