Goheung-gun Dohwa-myeon Community Security Council Leads Efforts to Alleviate Elderly Inconveniences

Installation of Safety Handrails in Bathroom Walkways for Mobility-Impaired Seniors, Delivery of Cool Mat Sets for Summer

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] The Dohwa-myeon Community Security Council (Private Chairman Hwang In-chun) in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Song Gwi-geun) has stepped up to help elderly residents who have difficulty living due to aging in rural fishing villages.

On May 17, the council announced that it had completed the 1st and 2nd special projects to support vulnerable households in welfare blind spots, including installing safety handrails in the bathrooms and walking areas for elderly residents with mobility difficulties.

The special projects carried out this time involved installing safety handrails to make it easier for elderly residents with physical difficulties to sit down and stand up from toilet seats, and installing handrails mainly along the routes elderly residents use, receiving great responses from those with mobility challenges.

Additionally, for elderly people living alone who are vulnerable to heatwaves, the council provided cool mat sets to help them have a healthy summer, offering meticulous care services such as comfortable sleeping arrangements.

Going forward, the council plans to implement a 3rd special project focused on ‘bathroom renovation and wallpaper and flooring work for vulnerable households.’

Private Chairman Hwang In-chun said, “The council is leading the creation of a warm community atmosphere through continuous sharing, and we hope this neighborly love movement will spread.”

Meanwhile, the Dohwa-myeon Community Security Council consists of a total of 15 members, including 12 residents familiar with local conditions and passionate about social welfare promotion, and is conducting special projects linked with the Jeonnam Social Welfare Community Chest’s Jomdori project.
