[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) has launched the first operation of the ‘Seoul Departure, Gwangju Dong-gu Metropolitan City Tour’ targeting tourists from the Seoul metropolitan area.
According to Dong-gu on the 19th, the ‘Seoul Departure, Gwangju Dong-gu Metropolitan City Tour’ is a 1-night 2-day tour for citizens of the metropolitan area to introduce Dong-gu’s unique cultural tourism resources such as the Fountain of Light and the Nostalgic Chungjang Festival.
The Dong-gu Metropolitan City Tour, themed on ‘night tourism,’ includes viewing the ‘Fountain of Light’ at the May 18th Democracy Square, which delicately expresses the spirit of light and fire through media art, as well as various experiences such as visiting the National Asian Culture Complex, Jeonil Building 245, Gwangju Folly, and traditional Korean music performances.
Participants can also join an art course featuring a lift experience at Jisan Amusement Park and a healing course that includes a walk at Mudeungsan Jeungsimsa Temple and a coffee experience in the cafe street of Dongmyeong-dong.
In October, a tourism program linked to the ‘19th Nostalgic Chungjang Festival’ will be operated to meet the expectations of visitors coming to Dong-gu.
Dong-gu plans to continue the metropolitan city tour every Saturday and Sunday, and citizens of the metropolitan area who wish to participate in the tour can make reservations in advance through travel agencies in each region of the metropolitan area.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “This city tour was prepared to widely promote our Dong-gu’s cultural tourism resources such as the ‘Fountain of Light’ and the ‘Nostalgic Chungjang Festival,’ and to directly attract tourists to revitalize night tourism starting with the opening of the Fountain of Light, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.” He added, “We will continue to discover and nurture attractive tourism content and make every effort to actively attract tourists from the metropolitan area and other regions.”
