[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Posco Chemical is practicing sharing with consideration for the environment in celebration of Posco Global Model Citizen Week.

Posco Group announced on the 17th that it is operating a special volunteer week, Global Model Citizen Week, from the 14th to the 25th of this month under the theme "Posco Together We Have Been, Posco Together We Are." Posco Chemical’s employees from five business sites nationwide, including Pohang, Gwangyang, Sejong, Gumi, and Seoul, are actively participating in volunteer activities.

This year, Posco Chemical’s activities focus on environmental cleanup efforts aimed at saving the Earth through local ecological preservation.

In Pohang, about 90 headquarters employees, including President Min Kyung-jun, collected marine waste at Cheongnim Beach on the 16th and also carried out environmental cleanup activities in the alleys of Cheongnim-dong and the Hyongsan River area.

On the same day, employees at the Seoul office participated in the baking volunteer activity "Sharing Bread of Love," making bread to be delivered to welfare facilities and low-income households.

In Sejong, activities using EM soil balls, which are gaining attention for their water quality improvement effects, are being conducted. Employees plan to produce EM soil balls and release them into Jocheon in Sojeong-myeon. The soil balls are known to maintain the water’s self-purification ability and improve odors over a long period on the riverbed. EM soil balls are made by combining microorganisms and loess and are effective in water purification, odor removal, and organic matter decomposition.

In Gwangyang, environmental cleanup and weeding work are being carried out at the Corporate Citizen Park, and in Gumi, efforts will be made to create a clean community through environmental cleanup of roads and rivers near the business site.

Min Kyung-jun, President of Posco Chemical, said, "We will continue our efforts to create a pleasant environment and a clean Earth, focusing on revitalizing the local ecosystem."

To this end, Posco Chemical has been holding the children's environmental education program "Blue Dream Environmental School" annually since 2013. Notably, support for the establishment of the social enterprise "Laundry Coffee," which transformed an old laundromat into a local complex cultural space, and the operation of the food voucher program "Food Charging Station" to support groceries for low-income families have become representative cases of local coexistence.
