Gimhae City Ends This Year’s ‘Used Battery Exchange Event’ Early... PET Bottle and Paper Pack Exchanges Continue

Gimhae City Ends This Year’s ‘Used Battery Exchange Event’ Early... PET Bottle and Paper Pack Exchanges Continue A citizen of Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam visited the local administrative welfare center to exchange used batteries.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The used battery exchange event held at the Eup, Myeon, and Dong Administrative Welfare Centers in Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam, is expected to come to an end.

The city has been conducting the used battery exchange event since November 26, 2015, to prevent environmental pollution, promote recycling of waste resources, and encourage proper separation and disposal.

Every Thursday at the Eup, Myeon, and Dong Administrative Welfare Centers, residents could exchange 20 used batteries for one new battery set, 2 kg of transparent PET bottles, or 1 kg of paper packs for one 10ℓ volume-based waste bag.

According to Gimhae-si, due to the active participation of citizens, the batteries prepared for exchange this year were depleted early, so exchanges are now only possible up to the amount held at each Eup, Myeon, and Dong center.

While the battery exchange will end, the exchange of transparent PET bottles and paper packs will continue.

A city official said, “We express our gratitude to all citizens who showed interest in environmental protection and participated, and we will prepare to enable more participation next year.” He added, “Even after the exchange event ends, please do not dispose of used batteries in volume-based waste bags, but instead, dispose of them in designated collection boxes located in apartment complexes or administrative welfare centers.”
