Automotive Industry Forms Joint Response Task Force with Cargo Solidarity Union

Automotive Industry Forms Joint Response Task Force with Cargo Solidarity Union On the sixth day of the Cargo Solidarity general strike on the 12th, Kia export new cars that could not be moved to the port are temporarily parked in the parking lot of Gwangmyeong Speedom in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do.

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Due to the general strike by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' Cargo Solidarity, which has disrupted finished car production, the automotive industry has formed a task force (TF) to coordinate a joint response, starting operations from the 13th.

The TF, established within the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, is led by Kim Ju-hong, Director of the Association's Policy Research Institute. The task force includes five finished car manufacturers such as Hyundai Motor and Kia, as well as the Korea Automobile Industry Cooperative, the Parts Industry Promotion Foundation, and parts industry groups representing suppliers for each finished car manufacturer.

The TF plans to assess the damage and difficulties faced by the automotive industry due to the strike, listen to demands from frontline sites, and make recommendations to the government. It will operate from today until the situation is resolved. In addition to identifying government recommendations, the TF will urge the National Assembly and government to establish fundamental solutions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future after this situation is resolved.

The association stated, "Parts supply disruptions and the resulting finished car production delays are further reducing parts demand, placing parts companies in a vicious cycle of management difficulties," and added, "It is necessary to monitor damages and difficulties daily for a prompt response, which is why the TF was formed."
