[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The transition committee for Kim Gilsung, the mayor-elect of Jung-gu, Seoul, officially launched on the 10th.
Mayor-elect Kim appointed 15 transition committee members to jointly draft the blueprint for a "New Jung-gu with Kim Gilsung" as the core slogan and a "Livable Premium Jung-gu."

The 8th term civilian mayor of Jung-gu transition committee held its launching ceremony at 11 a.m. at the office set up in Chungmu Art Center and began full-scale activities. The appointment ceremony was attended by Mayor-elect Kim Gilsung and 15 transition committee members, with Ji Sang-wook, chairman of the People Power Party's Jung-gu Seongdong-gu E district party committee, also present to lend support.

Choi Myung-ok, former Seoul city council member and chairman of the National Assembly Corporation Integrated Policy Research Institute, was appointed as the chairperson of the transition committee. Choi Woo-jung, former president of the Seoul Jung-gu Women's Association, was appointed as vice-chairperson. Former Jung-gu mayor Jeong Dong-il took the role of advisory committee chair to provide counsel for the transition committee's activities.

The transition committee is composed of three subcommittees: ▲Administration & Finance ▲Education, Welfare & Culture ▲Urban Planning.

The Administration & Finance subcommittee, led by subcommittee chair Jeong Jin-tae, includes members Kim Ki-joong (also serving as spokesperson), Lee Chang-jo, and accountant Do Kyung-chan. This subcommittee will assess the current administrative organization, functions, and budget status to seek efficient reform measures.

The Education, Welfare & Culture subcommittee, with Kim Tae-young as chairperson, and members Ko Jae-hoon and lecturer Jang Eun-sil, plans to concretize measures such as "Jung-gu returning thanks to education," "Jung-gu where seniors live well," and "Jung-gu guaranteeing hobby activities."

The Urban Planning subcommittee consists of chairperson Kyung Hwa-soo, members Ko Mun-sik, and urban planning engineer Yoo Cheon-yong. They will focus on detailing redevelopment plans for Sewoon Arcade, and comprehensive development plans for the Yaksu-Cheonggu-Shindang station areas, aiming to create an "advanced city Jung-gu where forests, people, and buildings harmonize."

Additionally, three professional officers have joined as expert advisors to enhance the professionalism of the transition committee's activities.

Furthermore, Chief Secretary Choi Yoon-sung, aide Kim Dae-pyeong, one secretary (civil servant), and three clerks (civil servants) will work together in Mayor-elect Kim's transition committee.

Mayor-elect Kim Gilsung emphasized, "To create a 'Livable Premium City Jung-gu,' we have formed the transition committee with individuals who have deep understanding and expertise of Jung-gu," adding, "We will open a new era for Jung-gu by becoming one team united for the better life of the residents."

Meanwhile, on June 1, Mayor-elect Kim Gilsung won the Seoul Jung-gu mayoral election, defeating the incumbent mayor Seo Yang-ho, a candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, who was seeking re-election.

Born in 1966, Kim is a native of Jung-gu who attended Gwanghui Elementary, Dongbuk Middle, and Seongdong High School, and graduated from Yonsei University Graduate School of Public Administration. He began his career as a National Assembly aide in 1998, served as president of Yongin Urban Corporation, and was an administrative officer at the presidential office during the Lee Myung-bak administration.
