[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The elected officials of the People Power Party's Gyeongnam Provincial Party wore towels around their necks and work gloves instead of neckties.
The Gyeongnam Provincial Party announced that until the 20th, the winners of the June 1 nationwide local elections and local party members will engage in volunteer activities at 16 party member councils across the entire Gyeongnam region instead of holding an elected officials' meeting.
According to the provincial party, they volunteered in firefighting efforts at the forest fire site in Bubuk-myeon, Miryang City, and on the 8th, elected provincial and city council members from Jinju-si Gap district participated in preparing and sharing side dishes at the Gajwa Welfare Center in Gaho-dong, Jinju City.
On the following day, the 9th, Hong Taeyong, the elected mayor of Gimhae City, along with local election winners and party members from Gimhae-si Gap district, helped pick fully ripe tomatoes at the Daedong Nonghyup Economic Office in Gimhae City.
The provincial party stated that activities such as helping with onion harvesting, picking Korean melons (chamoe), serving lunch to the elderly, collecting market trash, maintaining road surfaces, cleaning coastal walking trails, and river purification are scheduled.
A provincial party official said, "This is the first step in our determination to revive the struggling Gyeongnam economy and take care of people's livelihoods," adding, "We are grateful for the support from the residents and will serve them humbly and with a modest attitude without arrogance."
