On the morning of the same day, Minister Park met with officials from embassies in Korea belonging to the Korean Peninsula Club and the Peace Club at the Seoul Sejong-ro government office.

The Korean Peninsula Club is a consultative body of 20 embassies whose ambassadors are stationed in Seoul while concurrently serving as ambassadors to North Korea, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Peace Club consists of 20 embassies that have resident missions both in Seoul and Pyongyang. The Korean Peninsula Club and the Peace Club were launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2014 during the Park Geun-hye administration to strengthen international consultations on the North Korean situation.

However, due to COVID-19, most countries have withdrawn their diplomatic personnel stationed in North Korea, or it has become difficult for ambassadors stationed in Seoul to visit Pyongyang, leading to concerns that the usefulness of consultations on the situation may not be as significant as before.

It is reported that Minister Park recently proposed the event to meet with the Korean Peninsula Club and the Peace Club directly during a meeting within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
