113ha Mangrove Forest Restored Over 5 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] SK Innovation announced on the 9th that it donated 100 million KRW, raised from Green Points contributed by visitors at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022 earlier this year, to a mangrove forest restoration project in Vietnam.
On the same day, SK Innovation held a donation ceremony in Cau Ngang District, My Long Nam area, Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam, where Nguyen Trung Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee, Kim Hwangseok, CEO of Mangrove, and Lim Sugil, Head of SK Innovation Value Creation Center, attended and delivered the 100 million KRW donation to Mangrove. Mangrove is a local social enterprise promoting the mangrove forest restoration project in Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam.
SK Innovation had pledged at CES 2022 held in Las Vegas, USA, in January to donate the Green Points accumulated through various experiential activities by visitors at its exhibition hall to global carbon reduction efforts. Mangrove plans to use the donation together with SK Innovation for the mangrove forest restoration project and environmental awareness education targeting local residents and students. Vice Chairman Nguyen Trung Hoang said, "Since 2018, with support from SK Innovation, we have restored a total of 113 hectares (ha) of mangrove forests in areas including Cau Ngang District."
After the donation ceremony, about 30 people including members of SK Innovation and SK Earth On Ho Chi Minh branch, local partners PVEP and Cu Rong JOC, the joint operating company of Vietnam's 15-1 offshore block, and officials from Tra Vinh Province government carried out a planting activity of 1,000 mangrove seedlings in the Cau Ngang District area.
Center Head Lim said, "Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the mangrove forest restoration project, which has continued for five years, is producing tangible results such as responding to global warming and securing biodiversity," and added, "Under the 2050 carbon neutrality goal, SK Innovation will strongly promote innovation in eco-friendly business models and continue to discover and implement various investments and social contribution activities for carbon reduction."
