Jeongeup-si 'The Diamond of Fruits, Cherry' Officially Released for Shipment

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 9th that Jeongeup cherries, known as the "diamond of fruits" for their sweet and sour taste and rich nutrition, will be shipped in full swing.

Jeongeup cherries are rich in antioxidants such as iron and anthocyanins, containing six times the iron of strawberries and twenty times that of apples, helping to prevent aging and cardiovascular diseases.

In particular, Jeongeup cherries are popular among consumers because they contain fewer preservatives and chemical additives compared to imported cherries and have a soft texture.

Also, unlike imported cherries that are thick-fleshed and mainly sweet, Jeongeup cherries are characterized by a harmonious sweet and sour taste and aroma.

The city has been promoting promising fruit tree projects for several years in line with recent agricultural product consumption trends.

Jeongeup cherries have been cultivated in earnest since 2011, and currently, 28 farms cultivate 12 hectares.

Accordingly, the Jeongeup Agricultural Technology Center and the Cherry Research Association are focusing on securing the competitiveness of Jeongeup cherries and providing safe food.

They have established a cooperative system for sharing information such as cultivation technology research and sales, and last year obtained GAP certification to lay the foundation for safe food production and distribution.

To promote the premiumization of Jeongeup cherries, pruning education is conducted in the first half of the year, and a quality evaluation meeting is held during the harvest season, focusing on strengthening the capabilities of cherry farmers, establishing cultivation infrastructure, and improving quality.

A city official said, "Jeongeup cherries produced here have a soft texture and good taste, capturing the taste buds of urban residents," and added, "Please enjoy Jeongeup cherries, which are delicious and rich in nutrition."
