Pukyong National University Recognizes Extracurricular Achievements Like Competitions and Employment Activities on Transcripts
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Just as high school school records are used for college admissions, a university version of the school record that can be used for employment has been introduced.
National Pukyong National University will issue a transcript from June that certifies not only academic credits and grades but also extracurricular activities such as contests, employment and start-up activities, and volunteer work.
Until now, university transcripts typically printed a one-page document listing enrolled courses, grades, credits, GPA, and percentile rankings.
Students or graduates had to separately prepare certificates for contests, employment and start-up special lectures, career and volunteer activities to prove their capabilities when applying for corporate recruitment document screening.
The transcript issued by Pukyong National University starting this year records academic grades such as major and liberal arts, as well as various extracurricular activities divided into four categories: ▲Learning Competency ▲Career Psychology ▲Employment and Start-up ▲Others, detailing course names, main activity contents, hours completed, types, and activity periods.
Depending on the student's activity volume, the transcript is printed in 4 to 5 pages or more, and all recorded activities are officially certified by the university.
For this certificate, Pukyong National University completed the construction of ‘WhaleBee,’ a platform that integrates support for about 180 extracurricular programs operated on campus, and started operating it this year.
Just as students register for major or liberal arts courses, they apply for various contests, employment and start-up activities, volunteer work, etc. through this platform, and upon completion of all activities, the completion records are automatically linked and displayed on the transcript.
Kim Young-mok, Director of Student Affairs at Pukyong National University, said, “The Pukyong National University transcript provides comprehensive data that aggregates not only academic grades but also extensive activity information from university life, enabling a holistic evaluation of students’ capabilities. We expect it will help students develop convergent and interdisciplinary skills by engaging in diverse activities.”
