Implementation of Reading Programs for Vulnerable Groups and Environmental Improvement Projects Highlighting the Characteristics of Art-Specialized Libraries... 'Emotion Talk, Expression Playground' Program for Local Developmental Disabilities Conducted in Collaboration with Milal Welfare Foundation Goodwill Store (Dobong) from June to August
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) Ssangmun Chaeum Library (340 Uicheon-ro) was selected for the second consecutive year in April for the '2022 Disabled Reading Culture Program Support Project' hosted by the National Library for the Disabled.
The '2022 Disabled Reading Culture Program Support' project was established to bridge the information and cultural gap through supporting reading activities for the disabled based in public libraries and to spread the value of libraries within the local community.
With this selection, Ssangmun Chaeum Library will conduct the visiting program 'Emotion Toktok, Expression Playground' targeting local people with developmental disabilities in connection with the Milal Welfare Foundation Goodwill Store (Dobong) from June to August.
Going forward, as an arts-specialized library, Ssangmun Chaeum Library plans to provide not only reading but also picture books, arts (fine arts, music) education, and self-expression activities to people with disabilities, expanding opportunities for cultural and artistic experiences. To this end, since its opening in December 2019, it has been certified as Barrier Free (BF) by improving the usage environment for the disabled and equipping reading assistance devices.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “By operating unique cultural and artistic programs exclusive to Ssangmun Chaeum Library, we aim to provide continuous services to vulnerable groups in reading culture and eliminate information access inequality. We hope that Ssangmun Chaeum Library will continue to grow as a cultural and artistic hub where coexistence without discrimination is realized.”
