[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Se-eun] A letter revealing Adolf Hitler, the dictator of the German Nazi regime, expressing his fear of illness to his personal physician has been disclosed.
On the 5th (local time), according to foreign media including The Guardian, the Swiss daily Neue Z?rcher Zeitung (NZZ) obtained a letter sent by Karl Otto von Eicken, an otolaryngologist who treated Adolf Hitler, the leader of the German Nazi regime, for ten years starting from 1935, to his cousin.
Von Eicken, one of Hitler's personal physicians, wrote in the letter that after Hitler's first examination in May 1935, Hitler said, "If there is something wrong with my body, I must know about it."
The letters were discovered by Robert Deppgen, von Eicken's great-grandson, who was researching family records for a school assignment.
According to the contents of the letter, it is evident that Hitler, who captivated the German public with his speeches, valued his voice greatly.
Among the letters was a note that the polyp removal surgery was postponed until Hitler stopped giving speeches. This was because von Eicken advised Hitler to avoid using his throat as much as possible after the surgery.
NZZ evaluated that "Von Eicken did not consider it important at all that his patient took millions of lives through World War II and the Holocaust (the Nazi genocide of Jews)."
Richard J. Evans, a British historian specializing in German history, told NZZ that the recently disclosed letters are believed to have been left by von Eicken.
