[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 6th that the additional allocation of Ieum 5G frequencies applied for by LGCNS was completed on the 3rd.
Ieum 5G is a communication service that allows businesses wishing to provide 5G convergence services to build their own 5G networks by utilizing 5G frequencies on a specific area basis (land/building). After LGCNS became the second company in Korea to be allocated Ieum 5G frequencies following Naver Cloud, it applied for additional frequency allocations for two more locations.
LGCNS’s Ieum 5G plans to provide intelligent factory services such as autonomous mobile robots (AMR) that can collect information about the surrounding environment and navigate to destinations while avoiding obstacles, and AI-based monitoring using 4K and 8K ultra-high-definition video. The frequency band applied for was a 100 MHz bandwidth in the 4.7 GHz band. The Ministry of Science and ICT allocated the entire requested 4.7 GHz band to ensure smooth service provision as planned by LGCNS.
Based on its experience in building and supplying e-government solutions in the domestic public sector and cases of supplying overseas in countries such as Colombia and Uzbekistan, LGCNS plans to promote the provision of various Ieum 5G services in the public sector as well.
Furthermore, anticipating an increase in Ieum 5G demand in the public sector, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to revise the public frequency management guidelines (directive) to establish procedures that allow the supply of public Ieum 5G frequencies on an as-needed basis.
Previously, demand for Ieum 5G frequencies in the public sector required frequency supply after review following the establishment of a public frequency supply plan, but with the revision of the directive, frequencies will be supplied immediately after review.
