[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is supporting the disposal costs of waste fabric from small-scale sewing businesses in the area.

According to the 2019 Business Survey Report, out of 1,201 manufacturing businesses in Gwangjin-gu, about 900 are small-scale sewing businesses, accounting for 80.2% of all manufacturing businesses.

Accordingly, the district decided to support 60 pieces of 75ℓ volume-based garbage bags quarterly to ease the burden of waste fabric disposal from small-scale sewing businesses with fewer than 10 employees and to promote management stability.

To this end, in April, Gwangjin-gu enacted and promulgated the Ordinance on Support for Urban Small Business Owners in Gwangjin-gu, establishing a legal basis for supporting small-scale business owners.

Small-scale sewing businesses wishing to receive support for the third quarter (July to September) can submit the required documents, including an application form, a copy of the business registration certificate, photos of waste fabric disposal at the business site, and health insurance qualification verification documents, anytime through the district office website (Participation & Communication - Citizens' Opinions/Participation - Support for Disposal Costs of Waste Fabric from Small-scale Sewing Businesses).

Alternatively, they can visit the local community service center at the business location and apply from June 13 to 24.

After document review and confirmation of support, recipients can visit the local community service center at their business location to receive support from July 6 to 13.

In addition, the district is promoting the revitalization of the sewing industry through projects such as ▲ support for improving the working environment of clothing manufacturers ▲ establishment of fashion governance involving industry-academia-government collaboration (Gwangjin Sewing Cooperative, Seoul Gwangjin Clothing Association, Konkuk University LINC+ Project Group).

Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) is launching a ‘Free Greenhouse Gas Diagnostic Consulting’ service to reduce energy waste in daily life.

The ‘Free Greenhouse Gas Diagnostic Consulting’ is a project where energy expert consultants provide private households with ways to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

Consultants diagnose the energy consumption of household appliances, boilers, lighting, etc., analyze each household’s lifestyle patterns, and provide customized reduction plans. The consulting is conducted via non-face-to-face telephone consultations.

The diagnostic service is free, and 200 households are being recruited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Households wishing to participate can apply by visiting the Gangbuk-gu Environmental Division, calling, or emailing.

Application forms and further details are available on the Gangbuk-gu website.

The district expects that through the consulting, households can reduce electricity bills by about 50,000 KRW annually, and commercial establishments by about 170,000 KRW annually.

Mayor Park Gyeom-su of Gangbuk-gu said, “If all residents save energy in their daily lives, it will not only reduce electricity bills but also decrease greenhouse gas emissions caused by energy consumption,” adding, “The district will continue to make greater efforts to practice carbon neutrality.”
