Boseong Yeolhwajeong 'Popular Filming Location for Historical Dramas'

[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jeollanam-do Boseong-gun announced on the 2nd that ‘Yeolhwajeong’ in Ganggol Village, Deungnyang-myeon, is gaining popularity as a frequent filming location for historical drama series, attracting continuous visits from tourists.

‘Yeolhwajeong’ has captivated many viewers as a chosen filming site for currently airing KBS dramas including Red Danshim, as well as for Otsomyeul Bulgeun Kkeutdong and Shinipsagwan Guhaeryeong.

In particular, in last year’s MBC drama Otsomyeul Bulgeun Kkeutdong, the romance between the male and female leads, Isan and Deokim, unfolded centered around ‘Yeolhwajeong’.

Along with the popularity of the dramas, interest in ‘Yeolhwajeong’ and ‘Ganggol Village’ has also increased.

Especially, inquiries are flooding in about the traditional house and ancestral home utilization project program “Falling into Boseong’s Sound, Style, and Taste,” which Boseong-gun started in April.

“Falling into Boseong’s Sound, Style, and Taste” allows visitors to stay overnight at a traditional house in Ganggol Village and enjoy experiences such as sound workshops and tea-making activities.

This program is supported by project funds from the Cultural Heritage Administration, Jeollanam-do, and Boseong-gun, and is operated by the Jeollanam-do Jongga Association Boseong Branch.

The experience fee is 30,000 KRW per person. For inquiries, contact Yang Jae-hyeok, General Affairs of the Jeonnam Jongga Association, and applications are accepted via email.

Meanwhile, Yeolhwajeong in Ganggol Village, Deungnyang-myeon, Boseong-gun, was built by Lee Jin-man in the 11th year of King Heonjong of the Joseon Dynasty to foster future talents. It was designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 162 on January 14, 1984, and is managed by Boseong-gun.

Yeolhwajeong’s name is recorded to have been derived from a passage in Do Yeon-myeong’s Gui Georaesa, meaning “joyfully exchanging stories of affection among relatives.”

Yeolhwajeong features an architectural structure combining the characteristics of a pavilion and a house. In front of the spacious yard stands a single-pillar gate, and a ‘ㄴ’-shaped pond opposite the building’s floor plan was created. The garden, with cherry trees, magnolias, pomegranates, and bamboo harmonizing with the surrounding forest, creates a beautiful space.

Nearby Ganggol Village in Deungnyang-myeon, where Yeolhwajeong is located, are tourist attractions where visitors can experience nature and history, including the nationally registered cultural heritage site “Deunyang Obongsan Guduljang Quarry Site,” Haepyeong Lake Garden, and Jeollanam-do’s third private garden, “Choam Garden.”
