The Most Strictly Examined Issue in This Democratic Party Nomination Review Was 'Speculative Real Estate'
Passed the Democratic Party's Rigorous Verification with a Spotless Public Service Record
Candidate Kang In-gyu Must Reflect on Himself and His Family and Listen to the Public's Protests
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] With the June 1 nationwide simultaneous local elections just three days away, the Naju mayoral race, which is showing a close contest, has seen policy debates take a backseat as disputes over the opponent’s wealth accumulation, which has already been scrutinized, continue to draw frowns from the electorate.
The campaign headquarters of Yoon Byung-tae, the Democratic Party candidate for Naju mayor, issued a statement on the 29th, strongly criticizing, “The independent candidate Kang In-gyu’s camp has denied the second verification by the central government’s ‘Public Officials Ethics Committee’ and, despite having received multiple nominations from the Democratic Party, completely rejected the party’s thorough scrutiny, thereby mocking the citizens of Naju and party members.”
Kang In-gyu’s campaign, following their official statement on the 24th, released another on the 28th demanding an explanation from Democratic candidate Yoon Byung-tae for reportedly increasing his assets by 1 billion won in a short period.
Additionally, during the Naju mayoral TV debate on the 23rd, related questions were raised, but Yoon Byung-tae has filed a complaint with the Naju Election Commission accusing Kang of ‘spreading false information.’
The Democratic candidate Yoon Byung-tae’s campaign headquarters asserted, “Every year, we have undergone asset change reviews by the central government’s ‘Public Officials Ethics Committee’ and have been verified to have no suspicion, which has brought us to this position.”
They added, “The strictest scrutiny in this Democratic Party nomination process was on ‘speculative real estate,’” urging, “Kang In-gyu should stop the baseless black propaganda.”
The Democratic candidate Yoon Byung-tae’s campaign headquarters stated, “It is Kang In-gyu, the former mayor, who should look around his family and listen to the public sentiment of the citizens,” and claimed, “As a respected elder who has served as mayor twice, officially engaging in black propaganda against other candidates is an admission that he lacks confidence in winning the election.”
