[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Dahye, the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, raised her voice of criticism on the 28th through her Twitter, expressing discomfort with the protesters in front of the private residence.
Former President Moon returned to his hometown in Pyeongsan Village, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan City on the 10th and has been staying at his private residence.
On that day, Dahye wrote on Twitter, "I wanted to check. I came thinking of confronting them. I thought the only person with a reason to step forward would be a child," adding, "I came down fiercely with the feeling of 'If we go into the detention center together, at least it would be quiet between us,' but the reality is tragic and powerless. We are numerically outnumbered."
She continued, "It feels like a mouse trapped in a house," describing the protest situation in front of the residence as "I can't even open the window. A human barricade."
In another post, Dahye questioned, "Is this really a rally? What’s the difference between pointing guns and shooting and cornering us and shooting with words?" and added, "They only shout out hatred and curses as if excreting."
She emphasized, "I have endured silently, deprived even of the right to live quietly as an individual, and have done really well so far," and said, "There is no reason to endure any longer. Now I will protect my parents." The post has since been deleted.
In fact, Pyeongsan Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, where former President Moon returned after his retirement, has been suffering as protests by some conservative groups and YouTubers continue daily.
Although groups that held rallies and internet broadcasts with loudspeakers and speakers day and night have withdrawn, one-person protests and small group rallies during the day are still ongoing.
Moreover, one member of an anti-Moon group has been camping in a tent for over half a month since the day after the president’s return on the 11th, playing funeral music and the national anthem during the day while conducting a one-person protest.
Earlier, on the 15th, former President Moon apologized on his Facebook regarding the protesters in front of his residence, saying, "The noise from loudspeakers and insults are breaking the peace and freedom of a small rural village on a Sunday," and added, "I apologize to the residents of Pyeongsan Village."
On the first day of early voting, the 27th, after casting his early vote, former President Moon briefly responded to reporters asking about the protests in front of his residence by saying, "Yes, it is uncomfortable."
Meanwhile, Dahye, who opened her Twitter account for the first time on the 27th, described herself in her Twitter profile as "a REAL daughter who enjoys being under her parents" and introduced herself as a self-proclaimed "Moonpa No. 1," meaning "the most devoted supporter of my father."
In her first post, Dahye wrote, "I unexpectedly shed tears. Thank you for returning as a father and grandfather," and posted a photo of former President Moon with his eyes closed, saying, "And the most welcome sight among them is the image of you resting."
