Local Election Early Voting Rate at 20.52% as of 6 PM on the 28th... Highest Ever Recorded On the afternoon of the 28th, the second day of early voting for the 8th nationwide local elections, election staff at the Chuncheon Northern Senior Welfare Center, the early voting site in Sinsaudong, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon, donned protective suits ahead of the start of voting for COVID-19 confirmed patients.

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] As of 6 p.m. on the second day of early voting for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections on the 28th, the nationwide voter turnout rate reached 20.52% (cumulative basis). This is the highest early voting rate ever recorded in local elections.


According to the National Election Commission, out of 44,303,449 eligible voters nationwide, 9,093,239 had cast their votes by 6 p.m. that day.


By region, Jeonnam (30.95%) had the highest turnout rate, followed by Gangwon (25.12%), Jeonbuk (24.33%), Gyeongbuk (23.12%), and Sejong (22.27%). In the metropolitan area, Seoul recorded 21.08%, Incheon 20.0%, and Gyeonggi 18.96%.


Additionally, Busan (18.53%), Gwangju (17.22%), and Ulsan (19.57%) had turnout rates below the national average. The region with the lowest early voting rate was Daegu (14.74%).
