Once Again, "Buk-gu Empowering My Life"... Jeong Myeong-hee, Candidate for Mayor of Buk-gu, Busan, Puts Full Effort into Final Campaign Rally Jeong Myeong-hee, candidate for mayor of Buk-gu, Busan, is greeting residents at the Democratic Party's general rally held at the east gate of Gupo Market on the 28th.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo, Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Doo-yeol] #. He has been running tirelessly for the past four years. The eyes of the merchants I saw at the closure ceremony of Gupo Livestock Market, the elderly who asked me to hold their hands while getting vaccinated, the smiles of young mothers and fathers I met at the childcare center, and the passion of the merchants I saw at the urban regeneration site are unforgettable. There is still something I must do. Please protect me one more time for our Buk-gu. (Jeong Myeong-hee, Buk-gu Office Chief Candidate)

His declaration of candidacy revealed on Facebook and other platforms is closer to a tearful plea than the usual solemn tone of a political manifesto. Jeong Myeong-hee, the Buk-gu Office Chief of Busan, asked for support to push for a second term.

Candidate Jeong said she especially wants to protect the 'Nakdong River Belt.' She acknowledged that her party is struggling in most areas of Busan.

A Democratic Party of Korea district committee member in Busan said, "We see Yeongdo and Gangseo-gu as closely contested areas, but it is undeniable that we are struggling in most regions."

In the last local elections held in the aftermath of former President Park Geun-hye’s impeachment, progressive leaders were elected in Busan, a city traditionally strong in conservative support, and the Democratic Party also secured a majority of seats in the general election, sparking a progressive wave.

At that time, Candidate Jeong, who contributed to the Democratic Party’s acquisition of local power, now faces the judgment of the residents once again.

Jeong Myeong-hee, candidate for Buk-gu Office Chief of Busan, launched an all-out campaign to win votes four days before the nationwide simultaneous local elections.

On the 28th, Candidate Jeong toured all parts of Buk-gu, appealing to residents for support.

Jeong began her campaign around 6 a.m. by greeting residents at the entrance of Seonghun Apartment on Gangbyeon-daero. She also participated in the Buk-gu Women’s Choir Festival held at the Cultural Arts Center, sharing joy with the residents.

Afterwards, she moved by car, handing out business cards and greeting residents, and around 2 p.m., she held a joint campaign with Democratic Party candidates at the crosswalk of the East Gate of Gupo Market.

Jeong campaigned until 9 p.m., touring Buk-gu with events such as the ‘Deokcheon District Street Tour,’ visiting Baekyang Senior Citizens’ Center, attending the monthly meeting of the Honam Hometown Association Geumgok Branch, and touring the Geumgok and Hwamyung shopping districts.

Buk-gu residents expressed their support to Candidate Jeong, saying, “Thank you for leading Buk-gu well. Please lead Buk-gu once again,” “I started cheering for you after watching you debate on TV,” and “I just voted early for Candidate Jeong. Please make sure to win.”

Candidate Jeong said, “I will move forward with the residents of Buk-gu toward a ‘Buk-gu that empowers my life,’” and added, “Residents of Buk-gu who have not yet decided where to vote, please watch the TV debate once and make a careful decision.”

During her tenure as Buk-gu Office Chief, Candidate Jeong achieved results such as the complete closure of Gupo Livestock Market, hosting the Korea Reading Festival, and being selected as a 4th preliminary cultural city.

Her campaign pledges include the creation of the ‘Nakdong River Starlight Theme Park’ and the ‘Hwamyung Ecological Park Floating Theater,’ centered around the Geumbit Noeul Bridge, the longest pedestrian-only bridge in the region. She is competing against Oh Tae-won, the People Power Party candidate.
