On the 27th, the Criminal Division 11 of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Byung-chul) sentenced former Suwon Gwonseon District Office public official Park (41), who was on trial for violating the Personal Information Protection Act and bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, to five years in prison and a fine of 80 million KRW.
The court stated, "A public official leaked personal information of ordinary citizens, resulting in a serious consequence including a murder case," and added, "The scale of the crime and the amount of bribes provided are not insignificant." Additionally, the court sentenced private investigator Min (41) to four years in prison and Kim (38) to two years in prison.
Meanwhile, Park is accused of illegally accessing 1,101 pieces of personal information over about two years from January 2020, providing them to private investigators, and receiving 39.54 million KRW in bribes.
