Kim Gun, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Peace Negotiations on the Korean Peninsula, is scheduled to hold consultations with Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Director of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau at Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the 3rd in Seoul, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 27th.

The Ministry stated, "This will be the first face-to-face consultation since Director Kim's appointment," adding, "The three senior nuclear envoys will evaluate the recent series of North Korean provocations and the grave situation on the Korean Peninsula, and discuss future response directions."

The senior nuclear envoys of South Korea, the U.S., and Japan will meet for the first time in four months since their face-to-face talks in Honolulu, Hawaii, last February.

They are expected to discuss international community response measures to ease the heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula caused by North Korea's repeated provocations, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches, as well as trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan.

Follow-up measures based on the recent South Korea-U.S. and South Korea-Japan summits are also expected to be discussed.
