[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Namjeong-myeon Community Security Council in Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk, gifted flower pots to elderly neighbors living alone and marginalized groups in celebration of Family Month in May.
The flower pot delivery, conducted as part of the 'Areumdream Happiness Index UP' project, is a region-specific initiative of the council.
This project provides emotional support to elderly individuals living alone and residents suffering from depression, tailored to the local characteristics of prolonged COVID-19 social distancing weakening social relationships and an aging population.
On the 25th, the council held its second meeting, selected 25 households in need of emotional support, and personally delivered repotted flower pots to each home while checking on their well-being.
Lee Haejung, the private committee chair, said, “In addition to material support such as daily necessities for neighbors, we are trying various projects that can form emotional empathy. We are discovering projects that, although small, can effectively increase the happiness index of the elderly, like this project.”
The Namjeong-myeon Community Security Council is engaged in various welfare activities, including linking sponsorships to improve the living environment for the young and middle-aged, as well as support projects for the elderly.
