The Corruption Investigation Office Dismisses the Case of President Yoon's Accusation in the Busan Savings Bank Negligent Investigation

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HSCI) dismissed a case in which a civic group accused President Yoon Seok-yeol of inadequate investigation into the 'Busan Savings Bank illegal loan case.' Dismissal is a disposition that concludes the case without substantive judgment when the lawsuit requirements are not met.

The Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice (Sasehaeng) announced on the 27th that the HSCI dismissed the case on the 18th, in which President Yoon and former Central Investigation Department chiefs Kim Hong-il and Choi Jae-kyung, as well as former research officer Park Gil-bae, were accused of special dereliction of duty and other charges.

The suspicion of inadequate investigation into the Busan Savings Bank case stems from allegations that President Yoon, who was the chief prosecutor of the Central Investigation Division 2 at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in 2011, covered up charges against key figures involved in the so-called 'Daejang-dong development preferential treatment suspicion.'

In March, Sasehaeng filed charges against President Yoon and others, claiming that they failed to investigate the Daejang-dong loan corruption and lawyer Nam Wook's bribery allegations, thereby allowing the Daejang-dong corruption to grow.

Sasehaeng stated, "We will not only file a re-investigation request regarding the Busan Savings Bank inadequate investigation case but also accuse the responsible prosecutor, the HSCI chief, and the HSCI deputy chief of dereliction of duty at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office."

Previously, the HSCI also dismissed other cases filed by Sasehaeng, including allegations that President Yoon obstructed the Shincheonji raid during his tenure as Prosecutor General and manipulated vision test data.
