[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced on the 27th that the family musical play 'Romeo and Juliet' will be staged at the Sejong M Theater on July 1st.
This performance is the fourth season work of the 'Easy Shakespeare Series' conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Theater Company since 2015. This year, Shakespeare's representative work 'Romeo and Juliet' is reinterpreted as a story of friendship and love that the whole family can enjoy, meeting the audience.
Director Shin Jaehoon of 'The Tempest' and 'The Story of Geumjo,' composer Han Boram of the musical 'Song of the Sun,' and music director Kim Gillyeo of the musicals 'Mamma Mia' and 'Little Women' participated in the production, with Seoul Metropolitan Theater actors Kim Shinki and Choi Nara starring.
In particular, writer Heo Seonhye, who fully displayed her imagination with the youth play 'Yeongji,' adapted the script by adding that Romeo's mother Rebecca Montague and Juliet's mother Francesca Capulet were once inseparable friends. Romeo is reinterpreted as a delicate character who likes knitting and ribbons, and Juliet as a strong tomboy, adding more fun by comparing with the original work.
The performance also features live music with five instruments: violin, cello, guitar, piano, and percussion.
The performance will be held from July 1st to 17th at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts M Theater.
