Assemblyman Song Gap-seok Receives 'Korea National Assembly Legislative Award' for Second Consecutive Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Song Gap-seok, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Seo-gu Gap), received the '2nd Republic of Korea National Assembly Legislative Award.'

The Republic of Korea National Assembly Legislative Award was newly established last year to provide an objective evaluation of legislative activities and a prestigious award system at the National Assembly level.

Experts from various fields select the 'Outstanding Legislators Who Proposed Excellent Bills' that have high social expected effects and public interest, and the Speaker of the National Assembly presents the awards.

The outstanding bill selected was the Partial Amendment Act on the Protection and Support of Small Business Owners (hereinafter referred to as the Loss Compensation Act), which was primarily proposed by Assemblyman Song Gap-seok.

The Loss Compensation Act is the world's first law to compensate small business owners and others for losses caused by the government's COVID-19 quarantine measures. It passed the plenary session in July and has been enforced since October of the same year.

At the time of drafting the Loss Compensation Act, Assemblyman Song, as the Democratic Party's secretary of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Venture Business Committee, the standing committee related to small business owners in the National Assembly, led the legislative process including public hearings and party-government consultations, facilitating the swift and broad passage of the Loss Compensation Act.

Assemblyman Song said, "I am grateful that our efforts to overcome COVID-19 and restore people's livelihoods, including the Loss Compensation Act, have been highly evaluated," and added, "I will continue to do my best for legislation that empowers the people."

Meanwhile, Assemblyman Song Gap-seok has received excellent National Assembly member awards hosted by the National Assembly for three consecutive years, including the '2020 National Assembly Legislative and Policy Development Excellent Member Award' and the '2021 1st Republic of Korea National Assembly Legislative Award.'
