Ulsan Office of Education Conducts Safety Inspections of Educational Facilities in Preparation for Summer

Ulsan Office of Education Conducts Safety Inspections of Educational Facilities in Preparation for Summer Ulsan Office of Education.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct a safety inspection of educational facilities during the summer season throughout June. This inspection covers 264 schools?including kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, special, and various other schools?as well as 1,082 educational facility structures and 97 private kindergartens.

The summer safety inspection is carried out through a procedure where the management entities of educational facilities, such as individual schools or institutions, perform self-inspections of all buildings and facilities. Any issues identified (including those pointed out in previous inspections) and buildings rated C in the previous safety inspection are then verified and inspected by technical public officials from the Office of Education.

Disaster-risk facilities rated D, including three buildings, 11 retaining walls and cut slopes, and construction sites, are inspected by a public-private joint inspection team composed of private experts, civilians, and affiliated public officials.

According to the educational facility safety certification project introduced last year, potential safety hazards inside and outside schools affecting students are also preemptively inspected and improved.

The inspection items consist of a total of 50 categories: 25 items related to facility safety, 14 items related to indoor environmental safety, and 11 items related to external environmental safety. These will be implemented annually across all schools.

This year, priority is given to schools where seismic reinforcement and asbestos removal projects have been completed. A total of 62 schools?including 8 kindergartens, 26 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, and 13 high schools?are targeted, with a budget of 304 million KRW currently being invested.

An official from the Office of Education stated, “Through safety inspections and the educational facility safety certification system, we will identify and improve vulnerabilities across all educational facilities comprehensively and do our best to realize safer schools.”
