[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The leadership of the People Power Party made a full-scale visit to Incheon Gyeyang-eul on the 26th. On the same day, the People Power Party held an on-site floor countermeasure meeting at the election office of Yoon Hyung-sun, the candidate for Gyeyang District, Incheon. This was the first on-site floor meeting since Floor Leader Kwon took office. Floor Leader Kwon explained the purpose of holding the meeting by saying, "We are holding this meeting here to support and cheer for candidate Yoon."
In his opening remarks, Floor Leader Kwon pointed out, "These days, the phrase 'Is Gyeyang a pushover?' is trending. The lawmaker who had Gyeyang as his constituency left for Seoul, and conversely, someone with no ties to Gyeyang came here to become a lawmaker. The Democratic Party is mocking the residents of Gyeyang twice."
The party leadership also laid out a bundle of gifts. They plan to provide maximum support at the party level for parts of the pledges made by candidate Yoon and Lee Byung-taek, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeyang District Mayor, that can be assisted.
Floor Leader Kwon promised the fulfillment of pledges, saying, "Regarding the pledge to relocate the Gyeyang ammunition depot, we are in concrete discussions with the Ministry of National Defense and will soon be able to report visible results." He also emphasized, "Many Gyeyang residents commute to Seoul. They feel inconvenienced due to poor traffic conditions," and added, "Regarding the pledge to directly connect Seoul Subway Line 9 with the Airport Railroad, I promise as the floor leader of the ruling party to work with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to resolve this long-standing issue."
Seong Il-jong, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, also said, "If you ask the residents of Gyeyang what is the biggest obstacle to Gyeyang's development, they would answer the Gyulhyeon ammunition depot." He criticized, "This has been a long-standing issue demanded by residents since 2007. But what did Song Young-gil, a former lawmaker who served four terms and mayor of Icheon, do about it?" He added, "As the Policy Committee Chairman and a member of the National Defense Committee in the National Assembly, I understand the seriousness and importance of this issue better than anyone. The People Power Party is closely consulting with related ministries and reports that candidate Yoon's promise is within a feasible timeframe."
People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok plans to greet commuters in Seo-gu and Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, in the afternoon. Leader Lee, who is also registered as an election worker for candidate Yoon, will cast an early vote in Incheon Gyeyang-eul on the 28th.
