Gangnam-gu Hosts 'Networking Day' for Foreign Entrepreneurs


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu recently held a "Networking Day" at the shared office space "Dreamplus Gangnam," targeting about 80 people including 50 foreigners aspiring to start businesses in Korea and representatives from five small and medium-sized enterprises, to share investment, trade, financial information, and success know-how.


Planned to commemorate the "15th World Multicultural Day," this event was co-hosted by the Gangnam Global Village Center, a support facility for foreigners residing in Gangnam-gu, the Global Startup Immigration Center, the Korea Productivity Center, the Korea Invention Promotion Association, Woori Bank, and Innovative Korea.


The event was attended by prospective foreign entrepreneurs, SME representatives, and experts in investment, trade, finance, and taxation, featuring ▲ Octobot's successful investment attraction case ▲ Phoenix International's trade success case ▲ Woori Bank's financial seminar.


During the networking session, foreign entrepreneurs who succeeded in investment attraction and trade, along with prospective entrepreneurs, shared difficulties and success know-how, forming networks.


Im Dong-ho, Director of the Resident Autonomy Division, said, "Gangnam-gu is home to 2,309 venture companies, accounting for 22% of the 10,392 venture companies located in Seoul, and among the 18 domestic unicorn companies valued at over 1 trillion won, 11 companies including Zigbang and Kurly are concentrated here, making it Korea's top 'startup mecca.' We will continue to build global infrastructure to create 'Gangnam, a city good for both domestic and foreign entrepreneurs to start businesses."

Geumcheon-gu achieved the remarkable feat of finishing as the runner-up in the women's National League of the 2022 Dunamu Korea Professional Table Tennis League.


The Geumcheon-gu Office women's table tennis team ranked 2nd in the National League regular season of the 2022 Dunamu Korea Professional Table Tennis League, held from January 28 to May 17, advancing to the postseason where the top three teams competed.


On May 19, they won 3-1 against Ansan City Hall, which ranked 3rd in the regular season, in the first playoff match to advance to the championship finals. However, on May 21, at Studio T in Gwanggyo, Suwon, they narrowly lost to Suwon City Hall, the 1st place team in the regular season, finishing as runners-up. Geumcheon-gu Office earned a prize of 10 million won for the runner-up position.


The 2022 Dunamu Korea Professional Table Tennis League was the first season of the Korean professional table tennis league, attracting much attention from table tennis fans. The league is divided into the Korea League (corporate teams) as the first division and the National League (local government teams) as the second division, with nine teams participating in the women's National League.


Lee Jae-hwal, Director of the Culture and Sports Division, said, "The excellent performance of the Geumcheon-gu Office women's table tennis team in the Korea Professional Table Tennis League is due to a well-established virtuous cycle system from youth to professional players and infrastructure to promote table tennis. We will continue to actively support the team’s systematic training so they can achieve good results in the professional league and various competitions."



Gangnam-gu Hosts 'Networking Day' for Foreign Entrepreneurs


Yeongdeungpo-gu has opened and is operating an online open course to support youth employment and entrepreneurship.


This reflects residents' opinions proposed through last year's resident participation budget project. The district operates the educational program in collaboration with the Korea Vocational Development Institute, aiming to strengthen young people's employment and entrepreneurship capabilities and facilitate smooth social entry.


The open course is free and available to anyone under 39 years old who applies, and the education can be accessed online through the website until the end of this year.


The courses are selected based on popular job fields among youth, offering a total of seven courses: ▲ Excel/PowerPoint utilization ▲ Video planning and production course (Premiere) ▲ SNS content marketing ▲ Instagram marketing strategy ▲ Search advertising and Naver blog marketing strategy ▲ Computer utilization ability Level 1 (written and practical) ▲ Computerized accounting Level 2, all composed of practical content helpful for work.


Additionally, the district operates Young Connectors, where youth can communicate online with professionals from various industries and receive advice necessary for employment and entrepreneurship.


Young Connectors is a project that forms youth mentor-mentee groups and supports one-on-one mentoring through SNS and youth online platforms. In the future, it plans to provide various support services such as small group meetings using the metaverse and customized counseling by field.


Applications for the open courses and Young Connectors mentoring can be submitted via a Google form posted on the Yeongdeungpo-gu youth online platform. For more details, contact the Social Economy Division of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office.


A district official said, "This online open course was selected to provide highly preferred lectures in line with youth demand. We hope that through the online open courses, young people will develop job skills and build competitiveness in employment and entrepreneurship to grow into talents in various fields."
