Kim Jaemu and Jeong Inhwa Mutual Accusations

Kim Jaemu Accused on 23rd, Jeong Inhwa Also Reported for False Information Disclosure on 24th

<Gwangyang mayoral election heats up... Mutual accusations over criminal record issues>

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] In the Gwangyang mayoral election, Democratic Party candidate Kim Jae-mu and independent candidate Jeong In-hwa, who are engaged in a close race, have been exchanging accusations over the issue of 'six-time convicted criminal,' and it has been revealed that they have filed complaints against each other with the Election Commission over this matter, escalating the election into a chaotic situation.

On the 24th, the election campaign headquarters of independent Gwangyang mayoral candidate Jeong In-hwa announced that they filed a counter-complaint against Democratic Party candidate Kim Jae-mu with the Gwangyang City Election Commission for false accusation and false information disclosure.

Earlier, on the 23rd, it was confirmed that candidate Kim Jae-mu filed a complaint with the Gwangyang City Election Commission against candidate Jeong In-hwa for false information disclosure regarding the issue of six-time convictions.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, at a speech held at the intersection near Daerim Apartment in Deokrye-ri, Gwangyang-eup, candidate Kim Jae-mu said, "Regarding the incorrect information and negative campaigning raised by candidate Jeong In-hwa, I have filed complaints."

The election campaign headquarters of candidate Jeong In-hwa stated, "Asking candidate Kim Jae-mu about the fact of six-time convictions during a broadcaster debate was for the citizens' right to know and is not illegal at all." They added, "However, to speak in public as if false information or misinformation was disclosed and to file a complaint with the Election Commission constitutes false accusation and false information disclosure."

A representative of candidate Jeong's campaign headquarters said that they submitted a complaint against candidate Kim for false accusation and false information disclosure to the Election Commission on that day, and vowed to take strong measures including additional complaints if similar incidents occur in the future.

In response, a representative from candidate Kim Jae-mu's side rebutted, "He has apologized to citizens several times regarding the conviction issue and sought their understanding," and added, "Exaggerating problems that inevitably occurred during business operations as major issues and attacking in this way is a typical negative campaign."
