[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, has begun managing the occurrence of waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases caused by water or food, as pathogenic microorganisms proliferate actively in May and June when temperatures rise and outdoor activities increase.
Waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases are illnesses that cause symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting due to the ingestion of water or food contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms or toxic substances.
Hamyang-gun is conducting focused publicity to promote prevention measures against these infectious diseases.
▲ Wash hands with soap under running water for more than 30 seconds ▲ Cook food thoroughly before eating ▲ Boil water before drinking ▲ Wash vegetables and fruits with clean water and peel them before eating ▲ Do not prepare food if experiencing diarrhea symptoms ▲ Practice hygienic cooking (disinfect knives and cutting boards after use, use separate cutting boards for fish, meat, and vegetables) are introduced as preventive measures.
A health center official said, “With the rise in temperature during summer, there is concern about the occurrence of waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting,” and urged, “To have a healthy summer, please follow infection prevention rules such as hand washing, consuming safe water and food, and maintaining cooking hygiene.”
The county plans to strengthen education and publicity to prevent the spread of waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases in the community during the summer season.
