[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] The Statistics Korea announced on the 25th that it held the 1st SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Data Innovation Forum.

SDGs refer to the 17 policy goals agreed upon by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015 for the world to jointly achieve sustainable development for humanity by 2030. Since 2017, Statistics Korea has been serving as the UN SDG data custodian agency, overseeing the management of domestic SDG data.

This forum was the first official domestic event to discuss SDGs from a data perspective, held under the theme "The Current Status and Response of Korea's SDGs after COVID-19." Participants included government officials, international organizations, academia, and civil society representatives.

Statistics Korea Commissioner Han Hoon gave the opening remarks, followed by congratulatory speeches from Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division, and Noh Do-young, President of the Institute for Basic Science. Oh Jun, former UN ambassador and Chairman of Save the Children Korea, delivered the keynote speech on "The Direction the International Community and Korea Should Take to Achieve SDGs 2030." Subsequently, three thematic presentations were held on ▲ Korea's SDGs implementation status ▲ Data disaggregation and inclusive policies ▲ Data innovation and value creation.

In his opening remarks, Commissioner Han said, "Through this forum, I hope to enhance the policy utilization of SDG data and establish a virtuous cycle framework that leads to the development and improvement of statistical data according to policy needs."
