[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] New metropolitan bus routes connecting Uijeongbu and Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province to downtown Seoul will be established.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Transport Committee (Daegwangwi) announced on the 25th that from the 26th, general metropolitan bus services will commence on Uijeongbu's Route 1102 and Pocheon's Route 1403. Both routes will operate under a quasi-public system financially supported by the government.

Route 1102 runs 40 times daily between Uijeongbu Public Garage (Songsan) and Seoul Station. The dispatch interval is 20 to 30 minutes, with operating hours from 5:00 AM to 10:20 PM on weekdays. The route includes nine locations in Uijeongbu such as Hyoja Middle and High Schools, Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office, and the former 306 Supplementary Unit. From Dobongsan Station to Seoul Station, the route is direct, significantly reducing stops within Seoul to shorten travel time, according to Daegwangwi.

Route 1403 operates 34 times daily between six stops in Pocheon?including Gyeongbok University, Pocheon City Hall, Daejin University, and in front of Songwoo 6-ri Market?and four locations in Seoul such as Sinsa Station, Nonhyeon Station, and Seoul Express Bus Terminal. Operating hours are from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with dispatch intervals of 15 to 35 minutes. Based on demand analysis, weekend service frequency on the Pocheon route has been increased compared to other routes. Additional increases in service will be implemented if demand grows.

The new buses will be equipped with various amenities including smart ventilation systems, Wi-Fi, and USB chargers. During peak commuting hours, buses will be dispatched intensively to operate without additional waiting times. Yoon Joon-sang, head of the metropolitan bus division at Daegwangwi, stated, “We will continue to expand quasi-public routes so that more citizens can access high-quality public transportation services.”
