Director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave' Receives Rave Reviews from Foreign Media

Director Park Chan-wook's new film "Decision to Leave" has received unanimous praise from foreign media. On the 24th (local time), the film specialty media Screen Daily revealed that the average rating from eleven media outlets for this work is 3.2 points. Among the twelve competition section entries released so far, it is the only one to exceed 3.0 points. It is 0.4 points higher than the second-place film, director James Gray's "Armageddon Time (2.8 points)." Although nine films remain, it has rapidly emerged as a top contender for the prestigious Palme d'Or. Favorable responses from the press or high ratings do not directly translate to awards. However, as the work is recognized for its artistic merit by many, it may attract close attention from the jury.

Screen Daily described it as a "captivating and idiosyncratic new noir." They praised it as "visually stunningly beautiful" and noted that "there are no superficial or unnecessary elements in the direction." The British daily The Guardian compared director Park Chan-wook's direction to Alfred Hitchcock, who is revered as a master of suspense and thriller, awarding it a perfect score. The American entertainment media Variety also highly praised it, saying it "magically directs a dazzling love story wrapped in a murder mystery." "Decision to Leave" depicts the love story between homicide detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il), who investigates a death case, and Seo-rae (Tang Wei), the deceased's wife. Director Park Chan-wook has entered the Cannes Film Festival competition section for the fourth time.
