[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] On the 25th, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases surpassed 18 million, indicating that about 35% of the total population has been infected with COVID-19.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, 23,956 new domestic COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 18,017,923.


The cumulative confirmed cases exceeded 17 million on the 26th of last month and reached over 18 million in 29 days. The daily new confirmed cases decreased by 2,388 from the previous day, maintaining the 20,000 range for two consecutive days. Compared to a week ago on the 18th, the number dropped by 7,386, showing a steady decline.


The number of critically ill patients increased slightly for two consecutive days to 237. On the 23rd, there were 225 patients, and on the 24th, 232 patients, increasing by 7 and 5 respectively. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 16.4%, with 14.0% in the metropolitan area and 22.8% in non-metropolitan areas.


The number of new deaths was 23, an increase of 4 from the previous day (19). The total cumulative deaths reached 24,029, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.


With 24,602 new home treatment cases added the previous day, the total number of home treatment patients was counted at 140,055. Among them, 9,052 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.


As of midnight on this day, the completion rate of the 4th vaccination for those aged 60 and over is 27.4%, and the first vaccination rate for children aged 5 to 11 is 1.4%.
