[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Korean Air announced on the 25th that starting from the 3rd of next month, it will enter into codeshare agreements on four routes operated by Jin Air: Gimpo~Sacheon, Gimpo~Yeosu, Gimpo~Pohang, and Jeju~Daegu.
Codesharing is a partnership model where an airline sells a certain number of seats on another airline's flight under its own flight number, effectively expanding the number of available flights. Korean Air is targeting domestic regional routes that it had suspended after COVID-19, allowing customers to earn and redeem Skypass mileage when flying these routes.
The codeshare will be applied starting with flights departing on June 3rd, and reservations will be available from June 2nd, one day prior. Through this domestic codeshare, Korean Air aims to enhance convenience for domestic route passengers, while Jin Air is expected to benefit from diversifying its sales network.
Since March 2015, Korean Air has been codesharing on six international routes operated by Jin Air, including Incheon~Guam and Incheon~Okinawa, and has continuously expanded this cooperation to various routes in Southeast Asia and Japan. To increase customer convenience, Korean Air plans to expand codeshare partnerships with airlines worldwide.
