Seoul Scholarship Foundation Selects 150 Low-Income High School Students with Arts and Sports Talents... Budget Support of 450 Million Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Scholarship Foundation announced on the 25th that it will select 150 scholarship students among low-income high school students in the arts and physical education fields, who spend higher academic expenses compared to general students, and provide 3 million KRW per person. The city plans to support talented students in arts and physical education by reducing their academic expenses and assisting their career paths with a total budget of 450 million KRW.

Eligibility for the Seoul Hope Arts and Physical Education Scholarship includes students enrolled in high schools located in Seoul who have talents in music, fine arts, physical education, or dance, and who are recipients of basic livelihood security, belong to the second-lowest income bracket, or have a household income below 90% of the median income. Even if the economic criteria are not met, students from low-income or crisis households recognized as vulnerable by the school principal may apply.

This year, the Seoul Hope Arts and Physical Education Scholarship program will expand the number of recommended students per school from 3 to 4 to discover more outstanding students. Following changes in the quarantine environment, on-site field trips and face-to-face mentoring with senior scholarship students, which had been suspended, will be resumed. The face-to-face programs were especially highly rated by scholarship recipients.

The application period is from the 25th to the 10th of next month, and individual applications are not allowed. Teachers at the students’ schools must submit applications online through the Seoul Scholarship Foundation website and send related documents by mail and email. The selection results are expected to be announced in August.

Lee Seok-jun, Chairman of the Seoul Scholarship Foundation, said, “So far, scholarship students majoring in arts and physical education have achieved high university admission rates, and this scholarship program has greatly helped students achieve their career goals,” adding, “We will continue to support talented students so that they do not give up on their future due to family circumstances.”
