Decision to Report to Investigation Agency on the 25th... Urging to Clearly Reveal the Truth

Independent Candidate Lee Hong-gi for Geochang County Governor, "Investigate Allegations of Organized Election Interference by Public Officials" Document received via internal messenger.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Independent candidate Lee Hong-gi of Geochang held a press conference at his election camp on the 24th, claiming, "According to materials obtained from a whistleblower, public officials were systematically involved in the election ahead of the live broadcast candidate debate."

Candidate Lee announced on the same day that he plans to report these suspicions to investigative authorities.

He also urged candidate Gu In-mo to clearly clarify his position and the allegations of public officials' interference in the election.

Lee Hong-gi stated, "It has been confirmed as fact that under the leadership of executive public official A, section chief B received instructions and requested materials on candidate Gu In-mo's pledges from each department, and more surprisingly, requested each department via messenger to prepare rebuttal materials against my pledges," revealing some of the supporting documents.

According to candidate Lee, upon reviewing the report, there is circumstantial evidence showing that specific departments were listed and materials for the broadcast debate were provided to Gu In-mo's camp, and a request was made via messenger to prepare rebuttal materials against Lee Hong-gi's pledges. There is also confirmation of conversations among public officials regarding these matters.

Candidate Lee claimed, "Executive public official A can only be seen as having carried out these actions to support candidate Gu In-mo," calling it "a serious election crime violating the political neutrality of public officials."

He added, "Regarding this issue of alleged illicit election interference by candidate Gu In-mo and Geochang county public officials, Gu In-mo's camp must immediately clarify the truth, and the Geochang Police Department, currently conducting an internal investigation, must promptly conduct a search and seizure to identify those involved and punish them severely; otherwise, this local election will be stained by fraud."

He also said, "As this is a grave matter fundamentally denying the democratic constitutional order built with blood and sweat, we urge the judicial authorities to conduct a strict investigation and punishment."

Candidate Lee stated, "According to election law, public officials must strictly maintain political neutrality," and added, "The current whistleblower is suffering from severe stress and anxiety to the point of being unable to perform their duties properly."

Lee Hong-gi's camp announced that they will file a report with investigative authorities on the 25th.
