[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Regional Election Disability Solidarity urged the candidates for Gyeongnam Governor on the 24th to establish policies related to people with disabilities.

The press conference was attended by representatives of 23 organizations, including the Gyeongnam Federation of Disabled Organizations, Korea Industrial Accident Disabled Association Gyeongnam Branch, Korea Disabled Future Gyeongnam Association, and Gyeongnam Disabled Independent Living Center Federation.

The solidarity, launched in March, prepared 14 proposals across five major areas of disability pledges and delivered them to the candidates for Gyeongnam Governor.

The solidarity demanded ▲ the construction of a comprehensive hall for the disabled in Gyeongnam ▲ the introduction of an open public official system for people with disabilities in Gyeongnam Province ▲ strengthening health rights for the disabled ▲ establishment of a western regional oral care center for the disabled in the Gyeongnam area ▲ designation and operational support for a specialized obstetrics and gynecology clinic for disabled women ▲ expansion of artificial kidney rooms and night dialysis hospitals for kidney-disabled people.

They also urged ▲ construction of customized facilities such as welfare centers specialized for the visually impaired ▲ establishment of a comprehensive support center for women with disabilities in Gyeongnam ▲ construction of sports centers for the disabled and activation of sports activities ▲ securing large special vehicles for vulnerable tourists ▲ expansion of mobility rights guarantees such as call taxis and voucher taxis for transportation-vulnerable people ▲ creation of jobs and expansion of employment for the disabled ▲ introduction of support housing for the disabled ▲ increase in settlement funds for those leaving residential facilities for the disabled to be included in the pledges.

“At the pledge proposal briefing session inviting governor candidates on the 16th, candidates Yang Mun-seok of the Democratic Party, Park Wan-su of the People Power Party, and Yeo Young-guk of the Justice Party all showed positive responses, but it was difficult to receive replies regarding the actual reflection of the pledges,” they said.

According to the solidarity, candidates Yang and Yeo said they would accept all proposals, but candidate Park reportedly postponed giving a specific answer, stating that he would review and promote them if elected.

The solidarity added, “We hope that the immediate tasks for improving welfare and guaranteeing human rights for the disabled and the opinions of people with disabilities will be properly reflected in the provincial government,” and “We will closely cooperate and diligently monitor so that the elected candidate can keep their promises well.”
