Ministry of Culture Contest, Augmented Reality Yakjeon Street, etc.
Scheduled for Commercialization After Pilot Operation and Improvements in June
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Korea's first museum specializing in Korean medicine, the Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum, is operating an "immersive content" experience zone under the theme "Korean Medicine Meets Future Technology."
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has set up the second-floor Korean Medicine Experience Hall of the Korean Medicine Museum as the "Korean Medicine Immersive Content Experience Zone" and will run it on a trial basis throughout June.
The immersive content consists of five episodes. "Yakjeon Street through AR (Augmented Reality)" allows visitors to experience the traditional Korean medicine culture of ancestors through augmented reality content.
The "Donguibogam Story" corner uses line graphics and animation mapping to clearly present the main stories of the Donguibogam.
The "Strong Body, Strong Mind Dongui Gymnastics" corner combines the characteristics of five animals (tiger, deer, bear, monkey, bird) with the theory of yin-yang and the five elements and qigong gymnastics. As a game-type content, it recognizes the participant’s movements and displays them on the screen.
The "Yakseon, Medicinal Food" corner is presented as table animation under four themes: moisture, dampness, cold, and heat. The characters Yakkkebi and Byeongkkebi show the process of making Jalim (a type of herbal medicine).
Lastly, the "Forest of Life, Medicinal Herb Forest Media Art" corner features media art covering the entire wall and floor space, focusing on the seasonal changes of Jirisan and the major native medicinal herbs of the Sancheong area. It is designed as a space for experiencing the mysterious nature and healing.
The county plans to check for improvements to the immersive content that will be commercialized in the future through the trial operation in June.
This project follows Sancheong-gun’s selection last year for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s "2021 Public Museum and Art Museum Immersive Content Production and Experience Zone Support Project," securing a budget of 1.2 billion KRW (500 million KRW national funds, 100 million KRW provincial funds, 600 million KRW county funds).
The Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum, a cultural tourism resource representing Sancheong-gun, the hometown of medicinal herbs, opened on July 4, 2007, as Korea’s first museum specializing in Korean medicine.
So far, it has held special exhibitions such as the Jirisan special exhibition "Herbalist Stories," "Deoksan Gugok," and the "Yuita Academic Conference," as well as the 10th anniversary special exhibitions "Rescue: The Nation Saves, the Doctor Heals" and "The Korean Medicine Doctor’s House Call Bag Exhibition."
Recently, it was selected as a promotional site for the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage "Donguibogam," and in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Administration, it has promoted joint exhibitions, platform construction, forums, and participation in the German Book Fair.
This year, it was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s "Public Museum, Art Museum, and Smart Museum and Art Museum Construction Support Project," securing a budget of 280 million KRW (100 million KRW national funds, 180 million KRW local funds).
Through this project, Sancheong-gun plans to provide various exhibition contents by digitizing its collections under the theme "Smart Korean Medicine Meets ICT," offering convenient viewing services to visitors.
